The vision behind Reality
It won't be long after you come to church that you hear one of our teaching team talk about discipleship. It's the term the Bible uses for anyone who follows Christ and it originally meant 'a learner'. So anyone who wants to model their life on Jesus Christ is a disciple of his and that is the motivation behind reality. We want you to experience the joy and freedom that come with being a disciple of Jesus Christ.
What happens on Reality
We use the word 'programme' to describe reality because it's much more than just a teaching course. If you join a Reality programme you will be going to evening sessions where there will be a talk about some aspect of being a disciple. There will also be a chance to ask questions if you want to or just explore (over drinks and nibbles) the topic you've been hearing about. There is also follow-up activities to engage with. You'll be doing some spiritual exercises which will help you discover your unique strengths as a Christian. You will also be offered some consultations with a more experienced Christian who will take what you've been discovering and help you apply it in your own experience, in your family, at work or wherever it's most appropriate
The ministry day
During the programme there will be a ministry day which is held at a venue outside the church. The purpose of this day is to look at the whole topic of how God works in us by his spirit and to give an opportunity to apply this vital part of the Christian life. Many people speak about how valuable they find this day - particularly as it gives an opportunity to receive from God away from the rush and bustle of every-day life
What will I be taught?
If you come on reality there will be six major areas that will be covered. As part of our Church's vision to help people grow in Christ we identify six areas where we seek to minister to each other
- A Salvation moment - we look at what it means to come to Christ and what happened when you came to faith. It doesn't matter whether it was many years ago or only yesterday, there are wonderful transitions that God brought about when you came to him.
- Sustaining habits - Coming to faith is wonderful, but maintaining your faith in the long haul is a different matter. In this session we look at the habits of highly effective Christians and see what they have to tell us about keeping God's Spirit alive in us.
- Small groups - When you came to faith you were never intent=ded to be a Christian in isolation. So in this session we lok at how to get together with other Christians so that you can know and be known, love and be loved, celebrate and be celebrated by a group of other believers
- Spiritual gifts - In order to serve God with maximum effectiveness and minimum weariness we need to know what our unique gifts are. God invests each person with strengths that he uses tominister to other people. In this session we help you discover yours.
- Stewarded resources - Probably the two most precious things we have are time and money. The Bible says some profound things about how we use them wisely so in this session we examine how we should use our finances and steward our time wisely.
- Sharing heart - We feel that when you know Christ ans live for him in joy and freedom that there is an in-built yearning to tell other people and help them discover what we have. In this session we look at how to communicate your faith without being cringy or patronising.
