Boys' Brigade

Our Object is: ‘The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self- respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness’
The Boys Brigade is a Christian uniformed youth organisation aimed at boys aged 5 years plus, it was originally founded in Glasgow Scotland in 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith.
Boys Brigade at VBC began in 1951 and we are celebrating our 60th anniversary this year. It takes place at VBC on Wednesday evenings during term time and we currently have about 25 regular boys in our company.
- Anchor Boys: 5 – 8 year old; 5.15pm-6.15pm
- Junior Section: 8-11 year old; 6.30pm – 7.45pm
- Company Section: 11+; 6.30pm -9pm
During the session depending on age we run various activities which include working towards officer stripes and badges these cover, body, mind, spirit, community and creativity.
Our company section often works towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Queen’s badge.
We take part in divisional fun events throughout the year which include 12 hour sponsored games, company camp, sponsored swimmathons, game competitions, and drill competitions.
This year we are also celebrating 125 years of camping which we are hoping to do something.
We are striving to set up a marching band this year too.
In the family service, once a month we wear our uniforms and take part in church parade alongside the Girls brigade.
